Shiplap Tongue & Groove
A tongue & groove boarding offering a smooth planed finish. Each upper face is shaped with a shallow curve to offer a shiplap, overlapping appearance.
OSB (Oriented Strand Board)
Oriented Strand Board also known as OSB. Layers of wood flakes set within a glue-like resin, compressed into a solid sheet. Common in sheds.
Mineralized Roofing Felt
A garden building roofing felt in its commonest form. Coated externally with small stone flakes or grit to deter the effects of weathering.
Horticultural Glass
A single sheet of non-toughened standard glass, most often used in garden buildings like summerhouses and sheds.
Padbolt
A sliding metal catch used to secure doors or gates, usually with a holed provision for a padlock (not supplied). Style will vary by product.
Description
A great combination of style and practicality. The Shire Barn shed features a classic Dutch barn style roof rather than the standard apex style.
The Dutch barn style roof allows for greater headroom within the shed with no compromise in structural strength. The walls and floor are constructed from a quality tongue and groove, the roof panels are a solid sheet OSB.
The building also features a modular design used by many of the Shire branded buildings. Modular buildings allow you to select where the window panel placed when you install the building.
The wall panels are constructed of tongue and groove cladding and supplied in modular sections. The main advantage of a modular design is that each individual panel will be small enough (in one or both dimensions) to be carried by one person and will fit through a standard pedestrian door. As a concequence the individual boards may not line up perfectly with those on adjacent panels, due to the variences in the natural timber cladding.
Full installation instructions will be included with the building along with roofing felt and any fixtures and fittings required.

We are generally pleased with the garden shed but wonder why the roof consists of compressed sawdust instead of being made from solid planks, as in the flooring. Also the door is a poor fit & there is no overlapping beading to make it more waterproof when it is shut. You might not understand what I mean by that. We are going to have to buy a thin piece of wood the same length as the door & about one inch wide, to nail to one of the door panels so that when the door is closed it will be more weather proof inside. We think this is a design fault that you should bear in mind.
