  I purchased this arch as my old one had been damaged by a recent storm and was beyond repair. It was a much more robust one and I put it together ok as recommended but it needs 2 persons to erect it. I am 76 years old but did eventually manage it on my own using two ladders and screwing the top parts onto the posts in the upright position rather than putting it all together on the floor and then being too heavy to raise it upright! I am very pleased with the result and would recommend it.

  The arch looks great and is strong and solid. Very pleased. My only 'beef' is that the instructions for assembly were rather misleading. Positioning the first two rafters "at each end" of the rails is too vague. I placed them where I thought it was reasonable and then when I placed the next two rafters 230mm from the end ones it resulted in the braces not lining up smoothly with the curve of the arch. It seems best to fit the end rafters after the braces and uprights are in place.

  This arch is superb and makes a wonderful centrepiece in our garden. It is well made, sturdy and treated to last, although I also put on two coats of Rustins Danish Oil to add to the protection. It took two of us about 3.5 hours to put it up and I recommend that you hire a carpenter or real D.I.Y. expert if you put it up yourself. We thought that the steadying spikes that we ordered looked too flimsy so got some sturdier ones, attached them to the base poles and concreted them into the ground. This pergola will now withstand the strongest of gales - in fact has already done so. I liked the product and price so much that I have just ordered a second, similar product for the front garden. So I recommend this supplier.

  The pieces were heavier than expected. There were no prepared holes for the screws. The photo shows the assembled Arch standing on grass but I dug it 6 inches into the ground to hold it in place. This brought the height down to a point where a 6 foot person would have to bend down so as not to hit his head on the arch.
